Hello! My name is Kimberly! I am the creator of “Newbie Farmer Girl” at Kitts Ridge Farm. I wanted to start this blog to not only share my experiences as a new farmer, but to reassure women of all ages that they can farm as well. Farming is no longer a man’s world. I have no experience at farming, so this is all a learning experience for me. I am very excited to share this new adventure with my family and with you!

My husband; Kevin, twins; Kye and Kensi, and I live on a 67 acres farm in East Tennessee. About 20 minutes from Knoxville. Kevin grew up here in Tennessee, while I am originally from Lexington, Kentucky. Being a city girl, farming was never anything I thought about doing.

In 2017 we decided to buy twenty head of cattle from Kevin’s dad. David, (Kevin’s father) was very excited that his youngest of two son’s wanted to follow in his footsteps, and start farming. We not only have cattle but fifteen laying hens, a dog named Sadie and a small garden in the summer. We hope to one day expand on to different types of livestock, such as goats, ducks and more.

A few years ago I was introduced to canning and fell in love with it. With that said I am always trying to grow new things in our garden. We love eating healthy and both enjoy coming up with new ideas for recipes. One of my dreams is to have a cookbook that Kevin and I have written together. He is really good at coming up with desserts!

My background: I have a degree in Health Science with a minor in nutrition. I enjoy continuing to educate myself in both the healthcare and nutritional world. Knowing how the human body works is amazing to me as well as understanding what we should be eating and why.

When it comes to farming, I’m learning you have to find what works best for you, your land and of course your animals. You may go through some trial and error and take that knowledge and learn from it.

I am also happy to take, test, evaluate and use anyone’s advice, experiences, suggestions, opinions, etc. All I ask is you be respectful to me and my family as well as the followers within this blog.

I hope you’ll join me on this exciting new adventure!
